It was a pleasure to speak on BBC Look East following my 10 Minute Rule Bill seeking a screening programme for Type 1 Diabetes in children ![]()
Being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 33 was a complete shock. Five years on, I know first-hand that while it can be life-changing, it can be managed and looked after with the right support.
That is why early diagnosis is so important. The earlier families know, the more prepared they can be.
Please remember the 4 Tβs of Type 1 Diabetes:
Tiredness
Toilet (frequent urination)
Thirst
Thinner (unexplained weight loss)
These symptoms are not always obvious, especially in younger children, which is why raising awareness and encouraging regular screening is vital.
I have presented a bill to support this and it is encouraging to see the positive engagement so far. Simply talking about this more is already a step in the right direction.
Letβs make sure more families are informed, prepared and supported.
