A Personal Speech on Cancer in Parliament

On Tuesday evening, we lost my Uncle Rory to cancer. He absolutely loved politics and I wanted to pay tribute to him.  Cancer has severely impacted my family. 

1 in 2 people are expected to develop cancer during their lifetime, so it is vital that we continue raising awareness, supporting research and improving outcomes for patients. This is especially true for rarer cancers, including blood cancer and bone cancer.

I asked the Government to consider holding a debate on what more can be done to raise awareness. I was encouraged by the response, which recognised the importance of this issue and highlighted ongoing investment in cancer services and diagnostics.
